FAQs

Have questions about Genesys Works? We have answers! Read through our FAQs below.

A: We’re looking for juniors in high school who want to have a successful future, are motivated, and are interested in learning more about technology. We don’t have a GPA requirement. We do require you to be on track to graduate, able to work in the afternoons during your senior year, and able to work in the US. Sound like you? Fill out our interest form.

A: Our in-person interviews run from late March to early April.  You’ll hear if you’re accepted end of April. Be sure you check your email for updates from us!

A: No! We will teach you everything you need to know to be internship ready.  All we ask is that you’re interested in learning more about technology and the professional world since your internship will be within the IT (information technology) department of a large corporation. {link to corporate partner list; unique to each site}

A: Don’t worry! Check out these interview resources here.  {link to new page “Interview Preparation”}

A: Our program is only for juniors going into their senior year of high school.

A: Skills training starts late June and goes until early August. Training takes place at our office.  You’ll train from 8 AM to noon or from 1 to 5 PM. Throughout the 8 weeks, you’ll learn everything you need to know to get you ready for your paid corporate internship during the school year.

A: We encourage riding with family member, carpooling with young professionals from your school, or using public transportation.

A: We call our students young professionals for a reason. We want you to get a taste of professional life during the summer, so we ask that you wear professional clothes during training. If you don’t have professional clothes, thrift stores and family members’ closets are a great place to start looking.

A: While there are no guarantees, if you successfully complete summer training and earn an internship, we will do everything we can to make sure a job awaits you.

A: As an intern, you’ll work 20 hours a week at a top company in the metro area. Most of our young professionals go to school in the morning and then work at their corporate internships from 1 to 5 PM Monday to Friday (there are no weekend hours!). We also hold 1-2 Career & College Connection seminars every month to help you prepare for college.

A: Your internship will typically last 12 months. Most internships start in August of your senior year and end the next August before you go to college. You won’t have to worry about getting a summer job before you head off to college!

A: You’ll earn approximately $10,000 over the course of your 12-month internship.  Wages typically start at $10 an hour with a potential to earn more money per hour throughout the year.

A: Genesys Works chooses the company you’ll work for by carefully considering your strengths, the needs of that company, and transportation options available to you.

A: It depends on your school. Many schools offer high school credit for summer training and your work-based learning credits for your internship.  Your best bet is to check with your counselor.

A: Yes, you can! We’ll help you come up with a schedule that works for you and your company.

A: Being a young professional is a large time commitment, but the benefits are huge! As a young professional, you’ll know what it takes to be successful in the corporate world, have resume-worthy technology and business skills, create a plan for college, and earn $10,000. Our young professionals work in the afternoon, so they can’t participate in extracurricular activities that meet after school. While you may be able to continue to participate in clubs during the school day or with a limited commitment after school, you can’t participate in sports that practice or compete after school.
