Celebrating the Holidays

The end of the year always brings a rush of work and activity. Between holiday shopping, finishing projects, college applications, and end of semester exams, the Young Professionals at Genesys Works - Chicago were juggling a great deal of work. Luckily, the staff had a plan in the works for the annual holiday celebration.

The Young Professionals entered the Genesys Works - Chicago offices as they do each week, expecting a set of tips on professionalism and assistance with college applications. However, as soon as they walked through the door to find the training rooms beautifully decorated, they knew something was different.

HolidayBankerOn that December night, they received a fantastic gift: the opportunity to relax and socialize. As with other Genesys Works celebrations, the Young Professionals ate desserts, caught up with old friends, and talked with staff about their lives. But, this celebration had more in store. They were quietly shuffled into a training room, anxiously awaiting the night's activity. Finally, Program Coordinator, Joseph Tollefson, gave the word: tonight, would be an exciting take on the hit show "Deal or No Deal."

Five Young Professionals tested their luck, choosing finely wrapped boxes for a chance at a prize ranging from magazine subscription, an ever-useful Chicago Transit Authority pass, or a cruise from Chicago's famous Navy Pier onto Lake Michigan. As they made their choices, an ominous "banker" appeared, offering them "the best deal possible." Tension and excitement were pulsing around the room as Young Professionals cheered, offered advice, and celebrated with one another hoping that someone would score the grand prize.

Towards the end of the night, while making his final decision between the board's grand prize and lowest valued, Omar Robles, received a call from the "banker." He said "no deal" and made his choice on the final box. A hush gathered over the room as Joseph opened the box. It was quickly followed by a loud cheer for the final prize of the night, as Omar had won the Navy Pier Cruise.

Congratulations to all of our participants!
