Giving Back to History

On a warm October morning a record 45,000 runners stood at the starting line of the Bank of America Marathon among thousands of eager spectators. As one of Chicago's biggest events, the Chicago Marathon depends on the help of volunteers to ensure its success. While the runners set off to fulfill their goals of breaking personal records or completing the grueling run, a group of Genesys Works Young Professionals were on the course, enthusiastically assisting in any way needed.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is just one example of the many service opportunities offered to Genesys Works - Chicago's Young Professionals. Throughout the summer training program and school year, Young Professionals take time away from their weekends with friends, family, and homework to give back. Realizing the value of the program, they look to bring their new found passion for leading into the community, helping many Chicago organizations realize goals and finish major projects.

This year alone, young professionals have helped to beautify a Ronald McDonald House for seriously ill children, organized and distributed food at a local YMCA, and packaged food products for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. With more opportunities on the horizon, these young men and women will continue in their mission to give back.

While community leaders have given high praise to the Genesys Works Young Professionals for their great work, often the Young Professionals learn and gain a great deal from each experience. This year's Chicago Marathon offered one such opportunity as the young professionals were able to witness a new Chicago Marathon course record by Moses Mosop who crossed the finish line at an amazing 2:05:37.
