RELIANT ENERGY - A CUSTOMER SUCCESS STORY
Reliant Energy was the first major client of Genesys
Works in 2002 and has remained one of its largest clients for the last five
years. When Reliant first engaged a Genesys Works student they did it
because it was good for the community. However, they soon realized it
was also good for their business.
Throughout the last five years, over 40 Genesys Works students have
entered the corporate world through Reliant Energy. The
professionals at Reliant's Information Technology department have
embraced the program and have significantly impacted the students'
lives.
Steve Wilburn, Reliant's Vice President of Information Technology and
a member of Genesys Works' Advisory Board, noted that what makes the
Genesys Works program unique is its win-win nature. "I think the
biggest benefit the students receive from the Genesys Works program and
working at Reliant is self confidence," said Mr. Wilburn.
Reliant has also come to rely on the quality services that students
have provided as IT professionals in the help desk, PC repair,
deployments and inventory control areas.
"The prospect of going to work for a big corporation can
be a little daunting and intimidating, but at the end of this program
the students walk away and know that they can contribute and be

Now Reliant is helping Genesys Works expand its
program to benefit more students by looking into other professions.
This year, Reliant and Genesys Works are running a pilot in Customer
Operations whereby Genesys Works students will be performing
research-based activities that will help Reliant provide better service
to their customers.
With Reliant Energy's guidance, we believe that our
students will prove that they can provide value in customer operations
as they have in Information Technology and Engineering Drafting and thus
will make our third service area starting in 2008
