PROGRAM GRADUATES ANNOUNCE NEW ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Students graduating Thursday from Genesys ITS, a non-profit technology education and training program, announced the formation of the Genesys Alumni Association (GAA).

Two of this years graduates will guide the fledgling group. Hector Avellaneda, who will attend Texas A&M University this fall, will serve as president. Chris Covarrubias, who will attend the University of Houston in the spring, will be vice president and treasurer.

GAAs initial membership will include six students who have graduated from Genesys since its founding in 2002. The alumni group should swell to more than 200 graduates in the next decade, predicts Rafael Alvarez, founder and president of Genesys.

In the past, weve had students graduate, and we really dont know what happens to them when they graduate, Avellaneda said. The GAA will allow Genesys to establish continuity.

Covarrubias added, Our mission for members of the Genesys Alumni Association is to continue to network with each other, obtain college internships and recruit other high school students into the Genesys program.

The two officers also envision that GAA will provide continuing professional education to its members and mentoring to current Genesys students.

Membership will be open to high school graduates who have completed at least three months Genesys training plus employment with a Genesys partner company. GAA will meet twice a year, in June and December.
