GENESYS ITS ONE OF 104 NONPROFITS TO RECEIVE HP GRANT
Technology boost from HP to include $17,000 in wireless technology, cash and training

HOUSTON - Genesys ITS has been selected as one of 104 nonprofit organizations in the United States and Puerto Rico to receive an HP Technology for Community Grant valued at $17,000 in HP wireless technology.

The HP Technology for Community Grant Initiative is designed to provide technology tools to nonprofit organizations to enhance their effectiveness and to support the innovative use of mobile technology. The desired outcome is to build sustainability and capacity for both the nonprofits and the communities in which they serve.

Genesys will integrate the latest in HP technology, including five HP notebook PCs, one HP Tablet PC, one HP Pocket PC, a wireless ready HP digital projector and wireless remote control, a wireless ready HP all-in-one printer/scanner/fax/copier, a wireless access point and an HP digital camera bundle. In addition, Genesys will receive a cash stipend and training from HP to set up a new wireless network.

Genesys plans to utilize these resources to help set up its first expansion site in Clear Lake. Afterward, they will educate the students on the new technology, keeping them abreast of developments in industry equipment.

Genesys ITS, Inc., a non-profit provider of information technology services, trains and employs underprivileged high school students in the IT services profession with the goal of engaging them into a successful career track early on. Genesys contracts with major Houston corporations such as Reliant Energy, United Space Alliance, Boeing, and Shell Oil, placing students in jobs where they gain real world experience in a Fortune 100 corporate setting. This experience inspires students to better apply themselves in school and reach higher levels of education. More than 90 percent of students leaving this transformational organization go on to pursue higher education, and almost all of those are the first generation in their families to do so.

"HP has been a tremendous supporter of Genesys from the very beginning," said Rafael Alvarez, President of Genesys ITS. "This grant will be instrumental as we expand into other cities to help more people."

"HP is dedicated to making a difference in all communities, especially those where our employees live and work," said Camilla Nelson, program manager, Corporate Philanthropy, HP. "From environment to community and economic development, the HP Technology for Community Grant helps nonprofits such as Genesys apply technology in meaningful and innovative ways to improve the quality of life for community residents."
